Identity Card

Every student will be issued one Identity Card which should be carried by them at all times while at the Learning Centre and produced when required

The Identity Card issued to a student is Learning Centre specific. Students have the privilege to utilize the facilities provided to them in that particular Learning Centre they have been admitted to. This card will not be valid in any other Learning Centre

In case of loss of Identity Card a duplicate shall be issued at a specified cost subject to a written request from the student and duly signed by Learning Centre authorities.

The Identity Card is valid only for the duration of the programme the student has sought the admission for.

Attendance

Every student is expected to attend both theory and lab sessions. A minimum of 75% attendance is mandatory. In case of unavoidable circumstances the problem should be discussed with the authorities at the respective Learning Centre

Students must attend lectures regularly. Students remaining absent for more than 21 days without notice in writing will be declared dropouts and their names will be struck off the rolls. In such an event no claim for refund of fee will be entertained.

Working professionals must attend lectures at the Learning Centre and may take up convenient slots in consultation with their faculties / counsellors.

Library

Every Learning Centre has its own library. Only valid library cardholders will be eligible for use of library facilities.

The student can issue one book/magazine at a time for one week. If the book/magazine is overdue a fine of Rs.10 to 100 per day will be charged. In case of loss or damage to the book the student will have to bear the expense of the book or replace the same.

In case of loss of library card a duplicate card of Rs.100 will be issued on the submission of a written request to the Learning Centre authorities.

The library card will be valid only for the regular duration of the programme. The library card will be valid for only the Learning Centre in which the student has got admission

Payment of Tuition & Exam Fees

It is the responsibility of students to pay their fees within the deadline as stipulated by the authorities. The fee has to be paid before the commencement of the semester as per the deadline given. A tuition fee and an exam fee of Rs.550 is to be paid separately before the start of a session.

In case the student fails to pay the fee within the deadline a late fee will be charged. In case the student does not pay the fee within the above-mentioned period the student will be deemed to have dropped the course and will not be allowed to continue the programme.

The fee is non-refundable and cannot be adjusted for subsequent semesters.

Inter-Institute Transfer Policy

Transfer within the institutes of Brainware will be allowed only in case of situations like transfer on job, medical grounds etc. and that too with the approval of the present Institute and the University.

Inter-institute transfer will be allowed only if the course is being conducted at the destination institute.

Students have to abide by the batch timings stipulated by the institute.

If a student transfers to any other institute of Brainware without the approval of the University his/her admission is liable to get cancelled and the fee shall stand forfeited

Inter-institute transfer within the same city or within a radius of 10 km is not allowed under normal circumstances.In case of institute transfer the student has to fill in an Institute Migration Form and obtain a No-objection Certificate.

Internal Assessment

Students will have to appear for periodic tests and complete all assignments/ presentations given to them for the purpose of internal assessment.

Students will be eligible for the final examination only if they secure a minimum of 40% marks in the internals.Evaluation of tests/assignments/presentations by faculty for the purpose of internal assessment will be final and binding on the student unless over-ruled by the University.

The criteria for Internal Assessment is as follows:

Quiz/Test - 15 marks
Presentation - 5 marks
Attendance - 5 marks

Final examination

Final Examinations will be conducted at the end of each semester.

The exam schedule of the final examination will be communicated to the students through the Learning Centre and the website of the University.

The grade of pass marks required is not less than 40% in each paper

The overall score will be calculated as follows:
Internal Assessment - 25%
External Assessment - 75%

If a student fails to clear any examination he or she will be required to re-appear by paying a fee of Rs.550 per semester for each attempt whenever the examinations are held within the maximum duration of the course.
The evaluation and marks declared for the final examination will be binding on the students

Re-totalling:

Request for re-totalling may be allowed only within 21 days of declaration of results on submission of a fee of Rs.000 through DD in favour of the Registrar, Punjab Technical University payable at Jalandhar. On receipt of an application the answer sheet of the concerned student will be verified by checking the following:

  • the answer sheet has all the required entries correctly marked including the roll no., name and course of the candidate in question
  • all answers are evaluated and marks tabulated correctly
  • the totalling of marks is correct.

The result of re-totalling has to be verified by the Dean (Examinations) and the same declared within 15 days of submission of the request and the requisite fee.

If any discrepancy is found in the answer sheet the result of the candidate shall be revised accordingly and the marks obtained subsequent to re-totalling shall be final. The fee shall be refunded to the candidate concerned, if any discrepancy is discovered in the sum total of marks in the answer sheet

 

Challenge Evaluation:


A student can apply for challenge evaluation subsequent to and within 15 days of declaration of results of re-totalling on payment of Rs.1000 (One Thousand only) through DD in favour of the Registrar, Punjab Technical University, payable at Jalandhar. The student seeking challenge evaluation may nominate a faculty of his/her LC / RC under whose presence the evaluation shall be carried out.

On receipt of the application for challenge evaluation the University shall perform the following:

  • Completely mask the marks obtained by the student in its original evaluation.
  • Dean concerned shall appoint a Faculty Expert in the subject for evaluating the answer sheet
  • On the specified date, the Faculty Expert nominated by the Dean shall evaluate the answer sheet again in presence of the Dean/representative of the Dean and the Faculty nominated by the student. The Faculty nominated by the student shall only be a non-participating observer in the said process. The Expert concerned may, at his or her discretion, ask for clarifications, if he or she so desires.

On completion of the process the University shall undertake a tabulation of marks and the revised marks so obtained shall be announced provided the revised marks vary more than 10% of the total marks (rounded off to the higher whole number).

The marks obtained in the challenge evaluation cannot be challenged and it shall be final and binding on all concerned. The revised gazette shall be declared within 30 days of receiving the application for challenge evaluation with the requisite fee.

If the revised marks so announced are more than the marks obtained earlier the fee shall be refundable to the concerned student.

UMC Committee
The UMC Committee is normally headed by a retired judge from the Sessions Court / High Court and the committee comprises of senior people who look into all cases that are reported to the University using unfair means in the examinations conducted by the University. The complaints are verified and students are allowed to appear before the UMC Committee and if found guilty, punishment which may include suspension for one, two or more semesters or expulsion of the student from the programme may be meted out. Students are, therefore, required not to indulge in any malpractice during the examinations. In case of serious offence students may be debarred to appear in any examination of the University or in any other university within the country
Award of Degree / Diploma / Certificate

DMC shall be issued only to students passing all the subjects of the semester examination

The degree/ diploma/ certificate will be awarded to the student only if he/she has acquired a pass grade in all the semester end examinations within the maximum duration of the course

The degree is processed after one year of successful completion of course but a Provisional Degree Certificate can be obtained by the student on depositing a fee of Rs. 200 along with the copies of all detail marks cards through a request form.

In case the student does not clear all the semester end examinations within the maximum time frame stipulated in the course details he/she will not be awarded any degree/ diploma/ certificate. In such a case no refund of fee will be given.

Discipline

Students are required to observe decorum while attending the programme

No student will be allowed to enter the institute without permission from the institute authorities once they have completed the programme or have been expelled.
