Importance of Industrial Training

The essence of engineering is application of  technical knowledge. Engineering is considered as one of the most popular form of post secondary education – as it’s more than just another post secondary degree – it’s also considered as a full fledged, not to mention lucrative vocational degree. The career of an engineer rests upon his/her ability to apply technical knowledge/skills to solve real problems. So the more proficient you are in applying your skills to solve real time problems for firms, the more  successful will you be in your career.

As an engineering student, students in most engineering colleges get very little opportunity to get exposure to practical projects. For the most of your undergrad career you will mostly be focused on theoretical work – consisting of your syllabus , semester exams  and the little practical work you will have access to – lab work, most students focus on marks rather than gaining knowledge. So the industrial training or internship you engage in at your 4th year will be your only chance to get practical exposure. Here are a few tips to make the most of your industry training phase –

Importance of  Industrial Training : The objective of industrial training is 3 fold viz. To make students become skilled at solving day to day real life problems in real time , how to learn how organizations work – and learn about basics of management – as to how a business actually runs. And 3 – acquire management abilities. At the end of your 4th year you will be sent

Specialize : The industrial training phase is much like an apprenticeship wherein you acquire job skills – which can actually go on to become your professional specialization. So before you begin industrial training at a firm, ensure that you have a certain specialization ready. It can be related to a subject in your major which you excel at. Choose projects wisely – as it can be a stepping stone to your career. Having a specialization figure out helps in long run. For example – if you are keen to work as a Java developer take up a Java related project.
